Instagram Returns IGTV to Main App in Video Tab

Instagram is returning IGTV to its main app. This is done to simplify the way users watch videos on the platform.

Previously, if users wanted to watch long videos, they had to download a separate app called IGTV. But now the company under the Facebook umbrella is combining IGTV with its short format videos.

That way, later users can watch short videos or IGTV in a tab called Instagram Video.

Citing Cnet, Wednesday (6/10/2021), through its blog upload, Instagram said the Video tab would accommodate video content with a maximum duration of 60 minutes, including previews, and new features such as tagging other users and locations.

"This new Video tab will be the home for unified video formats. This will make it easier for users to find content from creators they like," Instagram said on its blog.

According to various sources, TikTok's competitor, Instagram Reels, will focus on short videos in separate tabs.

Later, users can tap on any video to watch it in full screen. Meanwhile, content creators can view information about the performance of their uploads and videos with one combined metric.

For your information, IGTV was first launched in 2018. Its presence at that time was intended to be a competitor to YouTube.
